Take a walking tour with local guides through the community of Complexo do Alemão, a favela located in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The tour starts with a ride on the Alemão cable car, starting at the Bonsucesso station and ending at the Favela do Morro da Baiana station, where you will visit the Reading Isn’t Difficult project and the sports complex located at the entrance to Misericórdia hill. Next, you will stop at Palmeiras station which boasts one of the best views in the favela, as well as the opportunity to buy artisanal products made by local artists. You will then head on to the central square of the Fazendinha community to participate in a community-led rejuvenation project of its green areas, followed by a street painting workshop with the Favela Art project. A group lunch will be provided at this point for you and the community members taking part in the project, followed by a beer tasting at the Alemão brewery to conclude the tour.
Favela Art is a social project that offers art classes to 180 children and teenagers. Part of the fee for the tour is invested back in to this project. Reading isn’t Difficult’ is a project geared toward creadent the Morro do Alemão’s first library, that will be inaugurated in September. We need all the help possible.
