Take an interactive walking tour with local guides through the community of Complexo do Alemão, a favela located in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The tour starts with a ride on the Alemão cable car, starting at the Bonsucesso station and ending at the Favela do Morro da Baiana (the second stop), where we will get off to visit a reading project ‘’Ler não é Complexo’’ and the sports ground located at the entrance to Misericórdia hill. Next, we will stop at Palmeiras station where we'll have the opportunity to take photos from the viewpoint and buy souvenirs and artisanal products made by locals. The group will then head on to the central square in the Fazendinha community to help with the community led rejuvenation project of the outdoor space and its green areas, as well as take part in the street painting workshop with the Favela Art project. A group lunch will be provided at this point for the tour group and the community members taking part in the project, followed by a beer tasting at the Alemão brewery.
Favela Art is a social project that offers art classes to 180 children and teenagers. Part of the fee for the tour is invested back in to this project. ‘Reading isn’t Difficult’ is a project geared toward creating the Morro do Alemão’s first library, that will be inaugurated in September. We need all the help possible!
